Great british sci-fi

If you love sci-fi from the golden age, then you'll love this film. Earth has been shifted off its axis and is causing the planet to get so hot that eventually it could kill life on earth. What's going on, how did this happen? Follow a journalist in his journey to finding out what's happening. Love it.

Absolute Blinder

Brilliant and tense thriller from Cushing and Lee. A slow burn, rather than full of action, but essential for any lovers of British Sci-fi.

Night of the Big Heat

Hammer & British cinema in general was never really associated with sci/fi, with only few classic examples (Quatermass & the Pit probably the greatest), but this 1967 (off Hammer) movie is great offering. There is little point for a synopsis, all that needs to be said really is Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing star in an excellent (& quite risque for the time) sci/fi flick. Very British and a wonderful counterfoil to the American Sci/fi movies that where much more common in the 50's & 60's.....If you enjoyed Village of the Damned, Day the earth caught Fire or the aforementioned Quatermass movies, then this is essential viewing, or if you are just like me & will watch anything with Lee or Cushing, then there is nothing more to be said!

A forgotten gem

Though more a drama than horror/sci-fi flick, this late 60's entry from director Terence Fisher (Horror Of Dracula, Curse Of Frankenstein, etc) is an interesting tale about a heatwave being caused by... aliens. The dynamic duo of Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing make it all well worth it. Though Odeon's blu-ray is 1080i instead of 1080p, the picture quality is still very good and along with an informative audio commentary, it easily beats the US release.
