Over the past twenty years, Bill Morrison has built a filmography of more than thirty striking and original work which have been presented in cinemas, museums, galleries and concert halls worldwide. Making use of rare archival footage, which has often been decayed by the passing of time, Morrison explores the power of film as a medium which is evocative of memory and gives rise to a sense of collective mythology. For the adventurous viewer

It's always fantastic when a boxset arrives with a complete body of work of an artist. In the case of "The Bill Morrison Collection" you get a very large selection. Enough to be occupied for hours and hours. A large bulk of this set contains very old movies that has been found by Bill Morrison. These decaying film footage are accompanied by music of contemporary composers like Vijay Iyer, Johann Johannsson and Bill Frisell. The viewing experience can best be described as hallucinatory. The great thing about these movies is that they can be viewed endlessly. They are so abstract that you are taken by the images and music which transports you into another world. This set also contains a thick booklet with a lot of background about Bill Morrison and his work. A truly great set. The BFI have outdone themselves.
