A stunning new 4K restoration of THE ELEPHANT MAN, with both picture and sound overseen by revered director David Lynch, this release is the perfect celebration of the films 40th anniversary. Starring Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt, THE ELEPHANT MAN is an extraordinary and intensely moving true story of bravery and humanity. Rescued by a well meaning surgeon (Anthony Hopkins), he tries to escape a life of prejudice and cruelty as he tries to fit into a world ruled by Victorian sensibilities. Beautifully shot in black and white by the incomparable Freddie Francis, THE ELEPHANT MAN is an unforgettable story of human dignity and survival.

Best version

The is the best release of the film. Great packaging and A/V presentation.

Beautiful presentation

I didn't buy this set for the pop-up cathederal which is a bit gimmicky for my taste but it is actually really well executed. Everything in the set is printed in sumptuous black and white in keeping with the source material. Speaking of which, watching a monochrome celluloid film on UHD with HDR? What's the point in having a wider colour gamut if there's no colour? Contrast people, contrast. Deep blacks with blinding highlights. I'm sure the best way to enjoy a title like this would be on a UHD HDR projector but who can afford one of them? Even on my entry-level Panasonic OLED, I got a really rich, film-like experience. The first few minutes were spent marvelling at the picture quality but I was quickly drawn into the film which I suppose is the point really, isn't it?
