Brad Bird makes his directorial debut with this animated sci-fi adventure. In 1957, a gigantic iron man crash lands from outer space in Rockwell, Maine. After reassembling itself, the giant is discovered by nine-year-old Hogarth Hughes (voice of Eli Marienthal), who helps it to conceal itself while feeding on scrapyard cars. Hogarth is assisted by beatnik Dean McCoppin (Harry Connick Jr), unaware that government agent Kent Mansley (Christopher McDonald) is already on the trail of what he regards as an 'alien invader'.
"Iron Giant" is based upon the 1968 story, ‘Iron Man,' by the British poet laureate Ted Hughes. The film is about a giant metal machine that drops from the sky and frightens a small town in Maine in 1958, only to find a friend named, Hogarth, that ultimately finds its humanity and saving the towns people of their fears and prejudices.

Everything about this collector's edition is wonderful but the collectible figurine is a joke. It looks like something that came with a Happy Meal. Very disappointed with it. It's just a piece of cheap plastic that you wouldn't give to a child to play with. Don't know how it's considered collectible!
This was an excellent blu ray package
Anyone familiar with The Iron Giant knows that it is one of the greatest animated feature ever released. If you haven't seen it, you must do so now. Until this year, I owned the DVD version of The Iron Giant and the disc came with a decent amount of extras, making of, trailers and so on. This year, The Iron Giant is being released as a Signature edition on Blu Ray as a standard edition and as this ultimate collector edition. If you're a huge fan of this film like me, this box is definitely the ultimate collector item: it comes with collectible cards (various poster artworks) neatly sealed in an envelope, a rather small figurine of the titular character though very well made and packed in its own little box, the Blu Ray with all the previous extras plus some new ones and the cherry on the cake: an absolutely gorgeous book including rarely seen pre-production artwork. This is a must-buy for any fans of The Iron Giant and defintely the end-all edition. Oh and the film is absolutely gorgeous on Blu Ray. PS: I've given it 4 stars instead of 5 because I found the actual box could have been made in a more sturdy material than the usual laminated cardboard.
As a long time fan of the film and having various collectibles relating to it, this was the perfect compliment to my collection. A cute little figure (to stay boxed) and the fantastic mondo poster art shrunk down for the cards add to this piece. However the book is beautiful and is the eye catching piece (film aside). The film itself is a fantastic film anyway, but the animation has never looked better and the signature edition, with the few extra scenes really is great. All complimented with a printed letter, quoted by Brad Bird. Great piece to own and a must for fans of the iron giant.
