The World at War: The Ultimate Restored Edition is the definitive version of one of the greatest documentary series ever made. Each frame has been painstakingly restored and the audio enhanced and upgraded so that this is the best this award-winning series has ever looked and sounded. Now on Blu-ray this is the ultimate way to watch this classic series.
Narrated by Laurence Olivier and first broadcast in 1973 when memories of the Second World War were still clear in people's minds and the war's veterans numerous, over 26 episodes this unique series assembled these recollections, together with archive footage, to create one of the most powerful and successful historical documentaries ever seen. The voices of those that fought, worked or watched during the war gave each episode a vivid sense of what it was like to be there and was the hallmark of the series.

Great boxset at a great price. One of the best WW2 documentaries you can buy :)
I have seen this in various formats a number of times. This restored edition is by far the best quality I have seen. The only problem I have is that they have made it widescreen rather than keeping it in the original 4:3 aspect ratio. It is obvious I'm afraid and you'll have to get used to chopped heads. I simply don't understand why they've done this. There's nothing wrong with the old format at all. I would preferred to have had the choice, but it doesn't take away from the quality of the programme. If you haven't seen it then buy it and learn.
I remember watching some of this at school and thinking it was good but not paying much attention. Now ten years on, I'm glad I bought it. It gives you so much information about WW2, some that after extensive reading, I didn't already know. I love how politicians of the time are interviewed, as are soldiers (German and Allied) and civilians that were affected. It has been brilliantly restored for this Blu Ray addition and I would highly recommend buying it.
This new Blu-ray restoration is the ultimate in documenties about the WW2 and is a must buy for anyone interested in this period of recent history.
this is THE only way to see the terror & brutality the nazis & the japanese caused in wwII from the humble political beginnings to the drawn-out painful capitulation of Berlin.....superb footage of all involved, the nazis, british, russians japanese & the USA...coverage of all the battles fought on all fronts.. This restoration version even explains the detail the restorers go to to bring us the best quality available 9 discs in total mammoth collection EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS
Very happy with price and upgrade quality for this Iconic box set in bluejay. Highly Reccommended
Much better watching this in Hi Rez rather than in the old 405 lines back in the day.
Arguably the greatest documentary ever just got a bit better. Obviously the remastering and Blu-Ray visuals can only go so far with such old archive footage so it's no technical advert for the medium. More than anything though this is the definitive version of what is both a fascinating piece of television history and an important historical document. Packed full of interviews with those who fought the war (and many of those who commanded the troops and were first hand witnesses of some of the momentous decisions in history). It is informative, exhaustive, enlightening and often emotionally devastating. If you have any interest in history and you have a Blu-Ray player then you should own this, simple as that.
Really great documetary series. Looks great in high definition and really educating as well. Really recommend it.
For my age group we used to watch this every Sunday in the 1970's. This is an eye opener to every one, fear and truth all in one. Well worth every pound, and so clear as to all history, and clarity of picture. Enjoy this, as no one would do it justice again
