From the revolutionary minds of Pixar Animation Studios and the acclaimed director of Monsters, Inc. comes a hilarious uplifting adventure where the sky is no longer the limit.

Carl Fredicksen, a retired balloon salesman, is part rascal, part dreamer who is ready for his last chance at high-flying excitement. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, Carl sets off to the lost world of his childhood dreams. Unbeknownst to Carl, Russell, an overeager 8-year old Wildnerness Explorer who has never ventured beyond his backyard, is in the wrong place at the wrong time - Carl's front porch! The world's most unlikely duo reach new heights and meets fantastic friends like Dug, a dog with a special collar that allows him to speak, and Kevin, the rare 13-foot tall flightless bird. Stuck together in the wilds of the jungle, Carl realizes that sometimes life's biggest adventures aren't the ones you set out for.

a heartfelt adventure

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Up (2009) is a heartfelt adventure that perfectly balances humor and emotion. The story of Carl, a widower who ties balloons to his house to fulfill a lifelong dream, and Russell, a lovable young scout, is both touching and uplifting. With stunning visuals and a poignant message about love, loss, and new beginnings, Up is an unforgettable Pixar masterpiece.

A modern masterpiece

I first saw “Up” on-release at the cinema and it was both touching & funny, tender & bittersweet. The vibrant animation was what we’ve come to expect from Pixar & was nothing short of exemplary, from the translucency and colours of the balloons to the fabric of Carl’s chair. The story was at times full of grief but uplifting also, and provided a narrative that was accessible to all ages. Carl Fredriksen always reminded me of my late grandfather also, so adds another star on my final assessment

My 27 year old son has had Up on his Christmas list since the film came out. I always thought someone else would get it for him but no body did. When it was there again this year, I banged my head against a wall and ordered it from Sendit.com. He'll be absolutely delighted!

Up is a hilarious uplifting adventure from Disney... well, I didn't find it hilarious or uplifting at all. I cried, blubbing like a baby from start to finish! This is probably the most endearing, soul wrenching, heart breaking Disney film since Bambi's mum was shot and Dumbo's mum was locked in an isolation cage only managing to swing her baby on the end of her trunk; tears filling their eyes. This is actually a very very good film, it takes you up in laughter and then beats you back down in tears while some cliff hangers keep you at the edge of your seat as you grow to love the characters and hope they fulfill their dreams together. You empathise with the main character and even though the adventure is completely ludicrous, you feel inside that it could be doable, if you truly believed! This is one of my favourite modern Disney films to date. I would recommend watching this film alone to save embarrassment, and with a box of tissues.

One of Pixar's finest. Incredible graphics coupled with a touching story line will take you through a full gamut of emotions. If you haven't seen this or you have it on DVD I'd wholeheartedly recommend buying the Blu-Ray!
