A Leading Toy Manufacturer

Former video game company Bandai Co., Ltd. is based out of Tokyo, Japan. Prior to becoming a singularly focused toy maker, they were well-known for producing video game consoles - focusing in this field from 1981 to 2001.

Alongside competing brands Hasbro and Mattel, Bandai is one of the most successful toy companies in the world. This is in large part due to their focus on innovation, which forms the basis for the company’s slogan: ‘Break out of the box’.

Founding Of Bandai

Bandai finds its origins shortly following World War II, created by Naoharu Yamashina. After struggling to make a living in the textile industry, both he and his wife relocated to Tokyo to pursue the growing toy manufacturing market.

The company found enormous success when it began designing its own unique products, exporting new toys over to the United States. As revenue subsequently increased, ‘Bandai-ya’ (as it was known) expanded its operations.

As of the 1980s, Bandai is renowned as a leading toy company in Japan, retaining the main toy licenses to popular franchises including Daikaiju, Ultraman, Super Robot, Kamen Rider, the Super Sentai and Power Rangers series, Gundam, and many others.
