The Inspiration for Our Big Lebowski Tees

When The Big Lebowski made its theatrical debut in 1998, cinemagoers had no idea what was in store for them. The eponymous character, Jeffrey ‘The Dude’ Lebowski (played by Jeff Bridges), is an individual unlike most others, which is apparent upon first viewing. He has very few passions aside from smoking illegal narcotics, drinking White Russians, and bowling. Nevertheless, his life is anything but repetitious, as you can tell from watching the movie in full.

At the very beginning of the story, the Dude is assaulted in his own home, his identity mistaken for that of another Jeffrey Lebowski (David Huddleston), who happens to be a millionaire. Hoping to claim compensation for his damaged property, a rug on which one of the criminal urinated, the Dude visits Lebowksi’s mansion; however, he gets more than he bargained for, being hired to deliver ransom money for the millionaire’s kidnapped wife, Bunny (Tara Reid).

The Dude’s decision to accept the task leads to a whole host of comedic encounters, which include a run-in with his bowling nemesis, Jesus Quintana (John Turturro).
