Meet The Madrigal Family

Released in 2021, Encanto is a computer-animated film by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The plot focuses on the Madrigal family, who are blessed with magical abilities. These gifts manifested when Alma Madrigal (María Cecilia Botero), a Columbian woman, fled her village to escape a violent conflict. Incredibly, a candle in her possession was somehow imbued with power, repelling her pursuers and creating the Casita, a sentient house in which to live with her three children: Bruno (John Leguizamo), Pepa (Carolina Gaitán), and Julieta (Angie Cepeda). Decades after this event, the Madrigals reside amongst a small community, their generational powers being used to assist the villagers.

Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz), the youngest daughter of Julieta, is the only member of her family who hasn't received any unique gifts. Because of this, she feels outcasted. Nevertheless, she values the magic of the miracle and grows concerned when she notices that the Casita has started cracking. To prevent a potential disaster, she starts investigating. Mirabel’s first point of interest is a forbidden room that once housed Bruno, who disappeared years ago, having been made a pariah for his precognitive abilities. Here she discovers pieces of glass that form an image of her standing in front of a destroyed Casita. Realising that she might be the future cause of her family’s downfall, Mirabel must find a way to alter her fate.
