The Mission: Impossible franchise is a series of American action films that follow the story of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), an agent of the Impossible Missions Force (IMF).

Released in 1996, the first film follows Ethan and his team as they go undercover to bring down the NOC list. However, after the mission is compromised and he is seemingly the lone survivor, the CIA believes that Ethan had something to do with the deaths of his fellow agents. Forced to go on the run, Ethan unites with two disavowed IMF agents to find the real traitor and recover the lost NOC list before the identity of every agent is revealed.

Due to the success of the first film, the Mission: Impossible franchise has grown and grown over the years. It has spawned many sequels, including Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), Mission: Impossible III (2006), Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011), Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015), and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018).

It is now considered one of the highest-grossing film series of all time.
