The King of Horror

If you’re familiar with the works of Stephen King (an American fiction and non-fiction author), you’ll no doubt agree that ‘King of Horror’ is an appropriate title for him. His decades-long career has resulted in the creation of some of the greatest pieces of literature in the horror genre, such as Carrie, The Shining, Pet Sematary, and It. A great many of these books have been adapted to other formats, garnering a wider audience of movie and TV watchers.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that King’s live-action adaptations have achieved success comparable to his written works, with his gripping stories providing the same emotional impact on screen as off, be it fear, sadness, or joy. For example, Pennywise (the eponymous villain of It) is a creature that thrives on theatricality, using its appearance to terrorise its victims. The most common form that this shapeshifter assumes is that of an evil-looking clown, which — if you ask anyone who’s seen the TV or movie versions — is both horrifying and mesmerising to behold.
