The Transformers franchise originated with a line of toys produced by Hasbro in the 1980s. This line of toys was inspired by the original Takara Toy line that included transforming vehicles and robots that were piloted by miniature figures.

Hasbro gave the line of toys an interesting backstory that kids could relate to and teamed up with Marvel to develop the story of the robotic race from the planetCybertron.

The now popular characters appeared in an animated television series through the 1980s, and in 1986 the first Transformers movie was released. The movie features the voices of Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Casey Kasem, and Peter Cullen amongst others.

The film series was brought back to the big screen in 2007, with Michael Bay’s epic feature film Transformers (2007). The plot focuses on a high-school student named SamWitwicky (Shia LaBeouf) who buys his first car. His car turns out to be the Autobot ‘Bumblebee’. Bumblebee defends Sam and his girlfriend Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox) from the Decepticons, who have come to Earth in search of the powerful Allspark.

Sam and Mikaela are taken in by a top-secret agency called ‘Sector 7’ in order to help stop the Decepticons, but when the young couple learns that the agency also intends to destroy all of the goodwilledAutobots, they formulate their own plan to save the world and protect the Autobots.

Since the 2007 smash hit, there have been several spinoffs and sequels including; Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Dark of the Moon (2011), Age of Extinction (2014), The Last Knight (2017) and Bumblebee (2018).

The franchise has accumulated millions of fans around the world and was nominated for various academy awards for the exceptional visual and sound effects.
