Willy Wonka is the beloved, eccentric fictional character who appears in the 1964 children’s novel Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the 1972 sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.

Willy Wonka (portrayed by Gene Wilder) has hidden five Golden Tickets in his Wonka Bars. Charlie, being one of the lucky five, finds a Golden Ticket and is granted a full tour of Wonka’s chocolate factory - as well as a lifetime supply of chocolate.

Wonka tempts each Golden Ticket winner to disobey his orders with something relating to the character’s flaws. After four of the five children are removed from the factory, this leaves Charlie Bucket the last remaining child, accompanied by Grandpa Joe.

The original movie’s success led to a 2005 remake titled Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Johnny Depp as the eponymous Willy Wonka.
