American Beauty tells the story of Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) a suburban father who feels his life has become to be a mere and pointless existence. Unaware that he is experiencing a mid-life crisis, things just seem to be getting worse for Lester and he decides to quit his job and indulge in a teenage-like world where he feels no burdens or pressure.
Lester’s life starts to change dramatically as he starts to lift weights, smoke pot and becomes uncontrollably infatuated with his daughter’s sexually over flown best friend. Tension begins to build in the family as Lester starts to get lost in his new world where he is slowly starting to forget the difference between right and wrong.
American Beauty is a dramatic and thought-provoking film that won five Oscars including Best Picture 1999 and Best Actor for Kevin Spacey.

This is a superb film, one ive watched many times. Whilst I personally wouldnt rank it along side the likes of shawshank I would rate it amongst some of the best work to come out of the big studios. It's very clever and strangly funny ! if you have seen it you will know what I mean, id say it's probably my favorite Kevin Spacey film and boy does his character ride a massive emotional roller coaster through out the story. If all this happend within every average family the western worlds society would be in melt down. This is a MUST SEE movie, it's BRILLIANT.
