Downton Abbey - Series 1

I bought this as I didn't watch the first Series. However I have been following the second and both my husband and I loved it so thought we must see this series. Brilliant!

Downton Abbey - Series 1

Set in England in the years leading up to the First World War, Downton Abbey tells the story of the Crawley family for many generations. but it is also spotlights where their servants live, love laugh and play Little do the people that inhabit Downton know, that the clouds of war that will bring marked change are already gathering over their heads. ITV have excelled themselves with such a lavish drama and stellar cast. Dame Maggie Smith delivers and is a tour de force. Every episode makes you look to forward to the next instalment.

Downton Abbey - Series 1

The whole first series of Downton Abbey was very enjoyable. A great DVD.

Downton from the beginning

This is a must for anyone who like me has been watching from the second series. Unlike most series, this one is top quality right from the opening title on the very first episode.

Enjoyable

Downton Abbey Series 1 is a must see. The series catches the mood of the times and leads you through the historical events of the early 20th century. It's a perfect watch when your curled up on the sofa with a cold or on a rainy afternoon. Maggie Smith will have you in stitches with her dry quick wit and is totally believeable, in fact all the cast play believeable characters. It was a joy to watch and I would recommend it.

Downton Abbey

This is a really excellant box set of series 1. My wife will watch this over and over again, particularly enjoying the beautifull costumes and for the professionalism of the acting. What better way to enjoy the dark winter evenings.

Abbey habit

Brilliant DVD if you were a fan of the series, and not doubt will get series2 when it comes out. Delivery from Zavvi was 1st class and reliable. Good bargain all round.

A Delightful Drama

Downton Abbey is an enjoyable drama written by Julian Fellowes which is very watchable and a must for anyone who wants to see the best of British actors indulging themselves in a romantic view of post- Edwardian Britain. The series begins with the tragedy of the sinking of The Titanic which has implications for the eventual ownership of Downton Abbey. Both above stairs , the Duke of Grantham and his family, and the servants belowstairs are very cliched but the story and the backdrop of Highclere Castle provide a winning combination. Fans of Gosford Park and Dame Maggie Smith will love it.

Downton Abbey - Series 1

Downton Abbey is another in a long line of great period dramas from ITV. There's humour, drama, tragedy, and even the legal matter of the entail (not noted for its entertainment value) is presented in an engaging way. Dame Maggie Smith has all the best lines - which is exactly as it should be - but the whole cast is excellent, and the writing by Julian Fellowes as good as ever. A must buy.

Downtown Abbey

Brilliant series that had me glued to the TV
