Monday 2nd January 2006 - Everton 3 Charlton Athletic 1:
After a battling away success at Sunderland on New Year's Eve, Everton went into this game with a renewed feeling of confidence. The visitors from London were simply no match for the rampant Toffees, with Tim Cahill in sparkling form. The Australian scored twice, had another effort disallowed and hit the crossbar in the last minute! James Beattie scored the other Everton goal and the New Year was off to a flyer!
Saturday 21st January 2006 - Everton 1 Arsenal 0:
Everton passed their toughest test of the calendar year so far with flying colours! Arsenal had put seven goals past Middlesbrough in their previous game but they were no match for the guile, endeavour and commitment of the Blues at Goodison Park. James Beattie's early strike was sufficient to secure three more points and lift Everton to within sight of the top-half of the table. The game also marked the return of Alan Stubbs, who slotted back into his central defensive role as if he had never been away.
