Foyles War - Complete Series 1-6 is an excellent series and one that stands the test of time. Set in the years of WWII it follows the cases of a DCI called Foyle, who is investigating law breaking in the environment of a country at war. The cases are interlinked with historical periods of the war and show the impact of the war on the coastal town of Hastings on the Sussex coast. It is interesting to see how the war appeared to be used by some as an antidote to law breaking due to the wider social chaos. As the series progresses, the relationships between the main characters grow and the 3 central characters develop into an intrinsic team who overcome issues and solve each crime. It is good to see these in one boxed set and so nice to see them without the breaks for advertisements. If you like this series, buy the boxed set, you will enjoy it.
My wife and I are really enjoying these. Generally the plots are sound and well-written. Even where they get a bit improbable, the peformance of Michael Kitchen with his nuances of expression and inscrutability, rescues it. Having a young female driver for him could have been ridiculous but the both handle it really well.
Foyles War is great value for money.
Foyles War - Complete Series 1-6 is a fantastic box set. It's so great to have them all together in one set. It's really interesting because it takes place during the Second World War. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves great murder mysteries.
Foyles War - Complete Series 1-6 is excellent value for money. I purchased it to catch up, having already seen several episodes on TV. The storyline, acting and presentation is all brilliant.
Foyles War - Complete Series 1-6 is a great series. It's slightly frustrating that there's no synopsis of the episodes on the boxes nor on a leaflet. It can be quite frustrating when looking for a particular story to watch as the titles don't always give clues to the storyline.
Foyles War is well acted, authentically portrayed with absorbing story lines. Not to be missed
Foyles War - Complete Series 1-6 is an excellent series of period detective stories. No DNA, no SOCA, no profilers, just a good old crime detection, based within the realism of the Second World War.
If you're looking, you are probably familiar with at least some of the series. However, if you are uncertain, this is an excellent example of carefully drawn and well acted TV detective drama. Story lines are well constructed and true to the feel of their era. The box set is nicely packaged and covers all the broadcast episodes (at the time of writing, there are rumours of some further, post-war, episodes). Limited but sensible extras for those that like such things.
All 22 episodes in the box set so you can watch the episodes in sequence when its convenient. Excellent story lines set during the 2nd World War giving a different view of war torn Britain. Credible characters and great plots.
