Not the best Superman but a nice one
The title says it all! As a big fan of the comics, the Reeve's movies and the Snyder's movies, this movie appealed to me and for a reason. Thrilling, action packed, almost as dark as the Nolan's Batman series - however, the movie suffers from a scenario a bit too simple and a cast showing a serious lack of credibility (Cavill is still ok as Superman) The product: arrived on time, excellent quality, nothing to complain about.

Being a big Marvel and DC Superhero fan - I was really looking forward to the latest incarnation of 'The man of Steel'. I had grown up with the Christopher Reeve Superman films so already had my vision of what Superman should be like. Man of Steel brings Superman bursting into the modern era. No more family friendly innocent side to the movie - this is a much more gritty telling of the story. Like an 'Origins' film, the story tells of Supermans beginnings as an alien boy coming to terms with his amazing powers and learning to harness them for the greater good. Starting on a very dark, metallic and H.R Giger-esque Krypton, the movie begins like a Sci-Fi blockbuster before making its way to Earth. It flits around a bit as it shows Supermans development before finally climaxing in an epic battle with General Zod. The cast is good - Henry Cavill is believable in the main role and certainly looks the part. The supporting cast includes Russell Crowe, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon with smaller parts for Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The look of the film is very good with an update on skimpy tights and pants for a much darker alien look. The action scenes - of which there are plenty - are where the film comes into its own. Massive battles full of comic book destruction take place across Metropolis as Superman battles Zod and his loyal aliens. The fight scenes are what you want from a comic book character - Violent, fast and over the top. Zack Snyders influence as director suits these scenes well. Overall - despite being a little lengthy - the film is a very enjoyable action blockbuster. It has certainly set the scene for follow ups.
