Adapted from the best seller by John Jakes', NORTH AND SOUTH covers the two decades prior to the Civil War, beginning in 1842. Real-life historical events are filtered through the eyes of two rival clans: the Mains, a South Carolina plantation-owning family, and the Hazards, a family of Pennsylvania industrialists.
The starring role goes to Kirstie Alley as Virgilia Hazard; most of the footage is devoted to the fluctuating friendship between Orry Main (Patrick Swayze) and George Hazard (James Read).
The A-List guest features includes Gene Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Leslie-Anne Down, David Carradine, Robert Mitchum, Jean Simmons, Hal Holbrook (as Abe Lincoln) and Johnny Cash (as abolitionist John Brown). Boxset arrived brand new and all sealed up. Brilliant price for it. Hoping dvds in good condition ive no worries though, as zavvi am sure will sort any problems out if they occur. Ordered lots more n another boxset is fab n in brilliant condition. The clarity and picture are amazing.

My wife and I are watching this blockbuster and cannot believe that the box set is such excellent value.In fact how Zavvi are able to supply such quality goods at this price beggars belief. The stories contained in this saga are so real I find it difficult to go to sleep when retiring. I can recommend this set to anyone who believes in true entertainment. Thank you Savvi will be back for more.
