Rawhide Series 1
For anyone raised on a steady diet of matinee westerns, with a side order of black & white TV, the Rawhide Series is a return to youth. However its gritty style shows a reaction too against the contemporary cheap and shoddy flood of 'B' westerns which became such a part of 1950's and 1960's Hollywood, and almost destroyed the credibility of the classic western genre in the process. Magnificently crafted around a simple premise, a Cattle Drive from San Antonio making its way [in the earlier series] along the Sedalia Trail. And during the Drive you meet the Drive hands, and witness their interaction with elements and people they meet along the way, giving plenty of opportunity to cameo some great 'westerns' actors of that golden era. You get to meet a youthful Clint Eastwood, whose collaboration with Sergio Leone assisted by the music of Ennio Morricone recreated the Western in Revival. But you also get to meet character actors like Paul Brinegar and John Ireland whose solid western credentials contributed to the success of that Revival. And of course a host of Best Guest Stars. That list is almost endless, but my personal favourites include Claude Akins, Eddie Albert, Lon Chaney, Jr., James Coburn, Elisha Cook, Jr., Royal Dano, Dan Duryea, Buddy Ebsen, Barbara Eden and the incomparable Jack Elam, to name just a few. So saddle up Partner, Series 1 lies ahead, and beyond you've got a total 217 episodes to get thru'for sunup!

Rawhide series 1
Rawhide. Series 1. Good to see this again, brings back the memories. Good print sound quality, only in B/W and 4x3 but that was how it was made of course
