As children, Jenny and Rosie Dolly are brought from their native Hungary to New York at the run of the century by their affable old Uncle Latsie. Supervised and managed by Latsie, the girls turn into formidable talent and manage to get an audition with the respected Oscar Hammerstein. The audition is set up by composer Harry Fox, whom Jenny has a crush on. The audition is fruitful and the girls go on to become huge, headlining sensations, but they lose a sense of their private life. Jenny becomes distressed that she can't have more time with Harry. Fate intervenes when Rosie is killed by a passing car, leaving Jenny alone but now finding matrimony with her beau Harry.

The Dolly Sisters' from the Betty Grable Collection - its a thoroughly entertaining and lavishly produced movie. I've always loved the Fox musicals from the '40s. They seem to me to be bright and brash and colorful, always good fun, never pretentious and possess an evergreen freshness.
