Fassbinder's Essential Later Years

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

The second of Arrow's fantastic collection of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's features is a superb way to get an insight into one of Europe's finest filmmakers. The eight disc set, which selects features made between 1973 - 1982, showcases Fassbinder's lavish and acerbic talents brilliantly. Each edition is crisply restored, with a wealth of special features including documentaries, interviews and more. Along with Herzog and Wenders, Fassbinder was one of the most innovative directors to come out of Post War Germany. His mixture of social commentary and surrealism are like no other. Progressive, groundbreaking and essential. This collection is a must have for any aspiring cineaste.
