The Nation's Favourite bedtime story is being brought to life in an all star beautiful adaptation of the best-selling book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The film's all-star voice cast features Robbie Coltrane as the Gruffalo; Helena Bonham Carter as the narrator; Rob Brydon as the Snake; James Corden as the Mouse; John Hurt as the Owl and Tom Wilkinson as the Fox.

The Gruffalo tells the magical tale of a mouse who takes a walk through the woods in search of a nut. Encountering three predators who all wish to eat him - a fox, an owl and a snake - the plucky mouse has to use his wits to survive, creating an imaginary monster who then turns out to be only too real.

Gorgeous!

I have two young boys, but had never read them The Gruffalo. Then I saw this animation..... This version of The Gruffalo is gorgeous - the forest is lush, the action is quirky and humerous of itself and the characters are great 3D representations of those in the book. It just fills the screen with a sense of humour and a sense of wonder. James Coleman is perfect as the voice of the mouse and if you're a fan of Gavin and Stacey, all the better. All the voice talent is spot on - John Hurt, Robbie Coltrane and all others - not a wrong note! The author of the book, Julia Donaldson, collaborated on the script and, although I love the book, I feel that she took the opportunity offered by this adaptation and improved on the book. In short, if your kids are fans of the book, they'll love this DVD. If they don't know the book, they'll pester you to buy it. And if you're an adult, watch it and regain your sense of childish wonderment!
