Based on the television show THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE & FRIENDS, this directorial film debut from writer and producer Britt Allcroft features new animation techniques that combine talking trains with live-action actors. THOMAS AND THE MAGIC RAILROAD is about a young girl named Lily (Mara Wilson) who takes it upon herself to save the tank trains such as Thomas (Edward Glen), who live on a magical island, from bully trains like Diesel 10, Splotch, and Splatter. Alec Baldwin stars as Mr. Conductor.

Thomas the Tank Engine - Magic Railroad took a while to arrive but the look on my sons face when it came was well worth the wait. This is highly recommended for anyone that loves Thomas the Tank Engine
After recently purchasing this film on DVD, I was unsure on what to expect - knowing and growing up with the older series of Thomas the Tank. But this film captures your heart, with portraying magic and belief - something in which children of today, kind of lacks. The storyline is great, and captured the heart of children to whom I live with and work with. Full of magic and belief, this film I would recommend to all families with young children. The story contains a girl on a journey to help restore the magic to the railroad, with help from her grand dad, the trains (including Thomas) and trusting conductor. What else can I say, apart from you got to watch it for yourself, to believe in the magic within :) Highly recommended.
