A Story Of Divinity

American Gods is a fantasy drama television series that is based on Neil Gaiman's 2001 novel of the same name. The story centres around an ex-convict named Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), who becomes embroiled in the dramatic disputes between the Old Gods and the New Gods.

In this series, the gods are willed into being by the number of people that believe in them - they are also given power based on their popularity amongst humans.

In the modern day, ancient gods such as the mischievous African god ‘Anansi’ and the pagan deity ‘Easter’ have lost a large portion of their following and therefore lost many of their powers. However, new gods such as Technology and Media have gained powers due to their relevance and popularity in modern life.

The story follows Shadow, who must adjust to this new world where magic exists and where he must help his new employer, Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), combat the threat of the New Gods and the likelihood that the Old Gods. Mr. Wednesday is actually the god Odin. He seeks to unite the Old Gods to defend their existence and rebuild the following and power that they have lost. Shadow must learn to accept his new life and adapt to the world he must now live in.
