The Green Arrow first appeared as a fictional superhero in the DC comic book ‘More Fun Comics #73’ in 1941. The character, created by Mort Weisinger, is an archer who uses his skills to fight crime in his home cities of Star City and Seattle, and is a member of the Justice League. The comics have inspired many spinoffs, including a television series.

The Arrow television series premiered in the United States in October 2012. The series follows the comic book storyline, which chronicles the life of a spoiled billionaire playboy named Oliver Queen. Oliver and his father go missing at sea when their luxury yacht sinks, and Oliver’s father dies.

Oliver survived for five years and lived on an uncharted island where he not only learned how to fight and survive from mysterious mentors, but also learned about his father’s corrupt business dealings and the corrupt and unfair society in his Home City. Oliver returns home to Starling City five years later and begins to lead a double life to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he once was.

By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and selfish billionaire secret identity and by night, he is a hooded, arrow shooting vigilante known as The Hood. He is determined to rid his home city of villains, drug dealers, mob bosses, and criminals.

The Arrow Cast stars David Ramsey as Oliver’s partner, confidant, and bodyguard, John Diggle. Stephen Amell plays the hooded vigilante Oliver Queen. Katie Cassidy stars as Laurel Lance, Oliver’s former girlfriend, and Colin Donnell portrays Tommy Merlyn, Oliver's best friend.
