DC Comics, a company founded in 1934, is a market leader in the comic-book industry, having published thousands of issues. The DCEU, capitalising on the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), began with the release of Man Of Steel (2013), a movie by director Zack Snyder. Actor Henry Cavill starred as Clark Kent / Superman, and other prominent members of the Justice League — DC’s headlining superhero team — subsequently joined him: Bruce Wayne / Batman (played by Ben Affleck), Diana Prince / Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Barry Allen / the Flash (Ezra Miller), Arthur Curry / Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Victor Stone / Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
