Die Hard Merchandise

Shop all things John McClane with Zavvi UK’s wide range of Die Hard merchandise and gifts. The action star may be one of the more unorthodox heroes going, but he is an equally hilarious and popular one at that.

Here you will find a variety of products, comprising everything from Die Hard Blu-rays and DVDs right through to posters — this is a loot Hans Gruber would be happy to lay his hands on.

An Action-Packed Christmas

Since hitting cinemas around the world in the summer of 1988, the Die Hard franchise has become a huge hit and something of a phenomenon. Grossing over $140m at the box office, the original film made John McClane (played by Bruce Willis) a household name. The ridiculous NYPD cop may be there to serve the law, but his way of doing so is undeniably unique.

Taking place on Christmas Eve, the first movie places McClane at a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Corporation. He goes there attempting to reconcile with his wife, Holly, but a group of mercenaries, led by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), storm the building. Huge sums of money are locked away in a vault within the tower, so Gruber and his team lock the building down, take everyone hostage, and attempt to take the money. The hostages don’t stand a chance, but there is one person missing from the party … and you can guess who it is.

Without assistance, McClane becomes a one-man army, taking on Gruber’s team singlehandedly. His battle with Gruber’s mercenaries gained cinema stardom for a number of reasons – namely, John McClane’s vest. Along with the cop who helps him from the outside, Al Powell, the character has become somewhat of a film legend. McClane looks ridiculous as he pummels his way through several enemies, but he gets away with it thanks to being such a badass. Your usual heroes wear costumes, but this guy does it in a vest and bare feet — iconic.

Despite being a summer release, Die Hard has gone on to be recognised by many as a Christmas film.
