The Master Of Horror

Born in 1948, John Carpenter is a critically acclaimed film director, producer, actor, screenwriter, and composer. He is known for a wide variety of films, mostly centred around the horror, action, and science-fiction genres.

Some of his biggest films include Dark Star (1974), Assault On Precinct 13 (1976), Halloween (1978), The Fog (1980), Escape From New York (1981), The Thing (1982), Christine (1983), Starman (1984), Big Trouble In Little China (1986), Prince Of Darkness (1987), They Live (1988), and In The Mouth Of Madness (1995). Despite most of Carpenter’s films being initially unsuccessful, many of his projects have since gone on to become cult classics.

In addition to his directorial responsibilities, Carpenter has acted as a composer or co-composer for a large majority of his films. He has even released multiple studio albums, such as Lost Themes (2015), Lost Themes II (2016), Anthology: Movie Themes 1974–1998 (2017), and Lost Themes III: Alive After Death (2021).

Over the course of his long career, Carpenter has received heaps of praise and awards. At the Cannes Film Festival in 2019, he was given the Golden Coach Award by the French Directors’ Guild, and he has also been awarded with a Saturn Award for Best Music following his work on Vampires, a 1998 film.
