Everybody Wants To Be A Cat

The 20th animated feature film made by Walt Disney Productions, The Aristocats (1970) is based on a story by Tom McGowan and Tom Rowe.

Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, the story follows the adventures of four Parisian housecats — Duchess, Berlioz, Marie, and Toulouse — that belong to a retired opera star called Madame Adelaide Bonfamille. After she declares that her cats will inherit her substantial fortune, Edgar (her butler) decides to remove them from the equation so that he can claim the money before his death. He strands the cats in the countryside, leaving them to find their way back home with the aid of a tomcat known as Thomas O’Malley. Throughout the course of the story, the cats meet a number of interesting characters.

Thanks to the film’s unique premise, it became an instant favourite amongst fans. To this day, it is remembered for the narrative as well as songs by Robert and Richard Sherman.
