Developed by Sega and published exclusively for the PlayStation 3, 'Yakuza: Dead Souls' is an incredible action-adventure game and the sixth instalment in the innovative and increasingly ferocious Yakuza series. Focusing on bloody rivalries between the different gangs and factions of the Japanese Mafia, the Yakuza series has always showcased plenty of aggression and gore. Dead Souls now introduces zombies to the tense fray, with the both feared and revered Yakuza now seen as the only hope of survival.

The game is set in the streets of the red light district of Kamurocho in Tokyo, where a zombie outbreak has taken hold, filling the gutters with carnage and death. The Japan Ground Self-Defence Force tried and failed to contain the outbreak, leaving the city to succumb to these flesh-hungry undead monsters. At the same time, Kazuma Kiryu returns to Kamurocho from Okinawa after receiving an ominous phone call from a mysterious man that says he has kidnapped Haruka, Kiryu's stepdaughter. The game is split into four chapters, each dedicated to one of the four terrorising characters, allowing you to play as Kazuma Kiryu (legendary former Yakuza boss), Shun Akiyama (elusive loan shark), Goro 'Mad-dog' Majima (feared insane Yakuza and pirate gangster of sorts), and Ryuji Goda (Dragon of Kansai). In this high-action, adrenalin-fuelled free for all, gun down the hordes of zombies whilst setting out to save loved ones and the remaining human citizens of Kamurocho in this undead apocalypse.

The district of Kamurocho, outside of the containment area, is still bustling with revenue and business, from the restaurants, hostess bars, casinos, and arcades, to the infamous 'happy ending' massage parlours. This allows for a great deal to explore and take part in, including golf and fishing, with plenty of mini-games and side missions to complement the original quest. Alongside the unforgivable swarms of wave upon wave of zombies you can find within the containment area, you will be challenged by gigantic, mega mutant bosses, complete with regenerating health and so much more to truly put your Yakuza skills and blood lust to the test. To help with the increasing number of zombies and difficulty, Yakuza: Dead Souls provides each character with different weapons, as well as a gun upgrade system and the option to buy new ones, so you can constantly improve and expand your artillery and arsenal as you progress throughout the game. The one thing you can fear more than zombies is the Yakuza.(Cat Emerson)

Yakuza: Dead Souls

Yakuza: Dead Souls is a nice game. It's a non-stop action game. There's more action than horror, but it's a nice game.

Yakuza: Dead Souls PS3

Yakuza: Dead Souls focuses on a "what if" scenario where a zombie outbreak occurs in Kamurocho. Each character play a role in trying to stop the outbreak. The game play changes from what Yakuza is mainly about - fighting. Instead, you now mainly use guns, from shotguns to gatling guns. Returning is the upgrade system, not only for the player character, but now for weapons and armour. Dead Souls still uses most of the familiar Yakuza systems of inventory management, playable mini games (such as: Mahjong and Gambling), and the familiar setting of Kamurocho (although it has somewhat changed due to the outbreak). With the main mission of stopping the outbreak, there are side quests of helping people with their problems, should you choose to do so. Bad points of the game include the character animation, where once hit, it takes you a couple of seconds to get up and move. The problem with this is that any object sent towards you will knock you down. This state of always getting hit by something will repeat this animation until you are clear to move away, which can lead to you losing quite a lot of health. Another bad aspect of the game, a minor for most people, is that you cannot change the control setup. You will have to aim with the left stick, instead of the shooter standard right stick.

Yakuza: Dead Souls

Yakuza: Dead Souls is a must buy if you enjoyed Dead Rising and you want more.

good game

I love the original Yakuza series and this Yakuza: Dead Souls spin off is fun to play as well. It features a weird but great story and nice graphics. The controls aren't as convenient as in other popular shooting games, but it works well when you've figured it out.

Great spinoff

If you are a fan of Yakuza series or zombie action games you will like Yakuza: Dead Souls. At this bargain price you just can't go wrong with this game!

bad game

First off this game gets really boring after a while. Running around trying to find all the sub-stories is boring. This game is a real let down, I would never buy a Yakuza title again.

Yakuza: Dead Souls

Yakuza: Dead Souls is nice zombie game. I was skeptical about the game but when I played the first few hours I was really surprised; I like the gamestyle and there are so many zombies to kill. I really like the game, only thing I don't like is the graphics.

Good game but no revelations

Edition of the game is not much different from the previous release, still fun and addictive game.

An entertaining experience!!!

Yakuza: Dead Souls is an incredible experience! Really fun and easy to play. I don't like shooters or zombies very much but I knew this would be different. If you're a fan of the series and like fun spin-offs then you'll definitely like this. It's similar to Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare but so much easier to play!!! Just like any other Yakuza game!

Yakuza: Dead Souls

The game is some kind of GTA with zombies and horror setting. Very funny, durable, with lots of missions and action. If you like Dead Rising you should really try this game.
