Star Wars

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, a new science-fiction franchise was born. Introducing a universe of lightsaber-wielding villains and charismatic smugglers, A New Hope (1977) reinvigorated the genre and excited cinemagoers with its unique concept, which was conceived by the brilliant mind of George Lucas.

To celebrate the legacy of the franchise, Zavvi UK has assembled a huge line-up of officially licensed Star Wars merchandise.

The Saga Begins

The first instalment in the Skywalker Saga, retroactively named Episode IV: A New Hope, focuses on the Rebel Alliance’s attempt to dismantle the Death Star, a planet-destroying superweapon designed by the Galactic Empire. Pursued by Darth Vader (David Prowse/James Earl Jones) and his legion of stormtroopers, Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) gives the acquired schematics for the Death Star to the astromech droid R2-D2 (Kenny Baker), who — accompanied by the protocol droid C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) — escapes to Tatooine, a nearby desert planet. On this planet, the young moisture farmer Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) takes them in and discovers the hidden message left by Leia, which pleads for the assistance of the former Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness). Learning that this man and his friend Ben Kenobi are one and the same, Luke finds himself drawn into the conflict, the life he knew forever changed.

Over the course of the original trilogy, which also comprises Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi (1983), Luke meets an expansive cast of characters: Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), Boba Fett (Jeremy Bulloch), Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), the Emperor (Ian McDiarmid), Jabba The Hutt (Larry Ward), Yoda (Frank Oz), and many others.

The galaxy has been further expanded through the release of prequels, sequels, and television spin-offs. These include the likes of Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999), Episode II: Attack Of The Clones (2002), Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (2005), Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015), Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017), Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019), Rogue One (2016), Solo (2018), The Mandalorian (aired in 2019), and The Book Of Boba Fett (aired in 2021) — amongst others.
