In his first independent zombie film in over two decades, George A. Romero returns to ground zero in the history of the living dead. When a group of film students making a horror movie in the woods discovers that the dead have begun to revive, they turn their cameras on the real-life horrors that suddenly confront them, creating a first person diary of their bloody encounters and the disintegration of everything they hold dear.

Told with Romero's pitch-black humour and an unflinching eye on our modern world, George A. Romero's Diary Of The Dead marks the legendary trailblazer's return to his roots.

a different approach

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

Positive surprise: Romero chose a more modern approach in creating this movie. As the main characters belong to a university-movie-making group we follow their way across the country from their point of view as their director takes hold of the camera to document what's going. Other than unstable mobile camera pictures this still enables Romero to have decent takes and camera views, but yet from a first person 'within the action view'. The young actor did most of the shooting himself which adds to the interaction with the other characters. Also has some of the old journalist's dilemma: When is the time to put down the camera and intervene? Maybe not his best movie but still a good zombie movie with a new edge to it worth viewing.

I rate this 3 out of 5. The movie is not that excellent. If you love zombie movies (like I do) then this is an OK purchase. I kinda like the way this movie is shot. It makes it that much scarier imo.
