For the new 40th Anniversary 4k restoration, Flash Gordon was scanned from the original 35mm negative to produce 4K files. Over 500 hours of manual restoration repaired serious damage that included image instability, scratches and intermittent flicker. The sound was scanned from the original track negative and underwent restoration to improve issues ranging from audio drop-outs throughout the feature and during reel changes, digital clicks and optical distortion. The film was colour graded for theatrical, home entertainment and 4K HDR release, using previous digital releases and 35mm prints as a reference. In line with the Director's vision and the original 35mm cinema release, VFX work was applied to remove the strings in all scenes where visible. This restoration was approved by Director Mike Hodges in May 2020, and will include the first 4K HDR Dolby Vision master of Flash Gordon

Just responding to the other review. I have no idea how good this will look but I did meet Sam J. Jones a few months back and he said the 4K restoration was fantastic. None of the Robocop movies are available in 4K. The original movie was remastered in 4K but only released on standard 1080p Blu Ray. I am sure that Flash with the benefit of HDR that UHD brings will be the definitive home release.

Well what can you say about the movie and soundtrack which im sure most (certainly. of my age) but they are both classics, the picture and sound are revelations, the steelbook itself vibrant colours lending itself to the movie and the biggest selling point to me and lacking in so many steelbooks I own is an abundance of extras which were all fascinating for movie buffs

4K cheese fest. Horrendous acting, dodgy effects and abysmal dialogue but who cares. It’s brilliant and Gordon’s Alive!

And absolute cult classic.. Great special effects for its time with a great soundtrack from the equally great Freddie Mercury and Queen. All brought up to date on bluray.

If you believe Adam West was the best ‘Batman’ ever, you are going to adore this version of ‘Flash Gordon’ — an ode to camp if ever there was one. Sam J. Jones and Melody Anderson are a tad on the wooden side but Max von Sydow (Ming the Merciless), Topol (Dr. Zarkov), Brian Blessed (Vultan), and a host of other fine actors more than make up for them. Add a score by the rock band Queen, and you have all the makings of a fine comic-strip-based movie. And, finally, the new 4K UHD version presents fans the film as it was meant to be seen — with a truly dazzling array of colours that pop off the screen. Enthusiastically recommended!

Excellent art inside and out. No embossing or debossing, just great 2D artwork. Zavvi mailed it out quick and it arrived well packed. Recommended!

Great SteelBook would recommend beautifully design as always, not a bad 4K transfer considering the age of the movie has some fantastic features to watch the commentary is worth listening to its a laugh to watch as always, a great addition to anyone who collects SteelBooks such as me.

Bought this for my husbands Christmas present (an afterthought really but hey - he didn't know that) He loved it! Has taken pride of place on the shelf - yet to be opened, but is looking forward to the disc with all the extras on it!
