This 1956 pop adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest is one of the best, most influential science fiction movies ever made. Its space explorers are the models for the crew of Star Trek's Enterprise, and the film's robot is clearly the prototype for Robby in Lost in Space. Walter Pidgeon is the Prospero figure, presiding over a paradisiacal world with his lovely young daughter and their servile droid. When the crew of a spaceship lands on the planet, they become aware of a sinister invisible force that threatens to destroy them. Great special effects and a bizarre electronic score help make Forbidden Planet as fresh, imaginative and fun as it was when first released.

This is a review of the SteelBook case only -- if you're reading this particular review, you know all about the movie itself and the SB is what you're interested in! This is a beauty! The case is matte finish with spot varnish on Robby and the girl, with the standard embossing around the same elements and the case edge. The title is not embossed. The front is a deep Forest Green with metallic gold lettering. The back is a black starfield with a few planets. The movie credits are listed on the back. Inside generic background artwork with a few early-sci-fi-type pop-out stills from the movie on the left-hand panel. Spine is Forest Green with nice gold and red lettering. The movie ratings on the case are stickers on the cellophane wrapper. The disc is region-free, although it is not noted anywhere. The disc label is the same as the generic Blu-ray cover and bears multiple country ratings. I waffled on this one for quite a while until I saw the nice embossing on the cover and the nice price -- no regrets, now! The only way this could have been better is with a full-gloss finish or embossed title on the front. Highly recommended!
Fantastic embossed steelbook edition of this ground-breaking film, this is one to display - AMAZING LOL
Great steelbook edition of this classic sci-fi movie. I love the retro/classic design with amazing colors that are very uncommun in a steelbook. A must have if you are a sci-fi fan and collector. Simply amazing.
great copy of forbidden planet, a real sci-fi classic of 1956. after 60 years still fun to watch. only wish i could see it again on a real movie cinema screen. thank you zavvi for safe shipping to asia also.
To say that this Steelbook blows out of the water and puts to shame the standard blue-ray packaging, might be the understatement of the year. Beautiful !
Very nice Steelbook. Embossed with nice colors and retro graphics. Very pleased.
This is a beautiful looking steelbook, one of the best I've yet seen. Really striking cover, with bold colours that are perfectly suited to a 1950's sci-fi classic like Forbidden Planet.
Bought the standard edition. What a fantastic journey! After all these years the movie looks like a new one. Perfect quality. Amazing story, based on a Shakespeare story. A big yes for this fantastic release! Thanks Zavvi for fast delivery to Germany!
Great classic scifi flick in one of the best steelbooks ever made.
