In the not so distant future, mankind has advanced to a state where complete body transplants from flesh to machine is possible. This allows for great increases in both physical and cybernetic prowess and blurring the lines between the two worlds. However, criminals can also make full use of such technology, leading to new and sometimes, very dangerous crimes. In response to such innovative new methods, the Japanese Government has established Section 9, an independently operating police unit which deals with such highly sensitive crimes.
Led by Daisuke Aramaki and Motoko Kusanagi, Section 9 deals with such crimes over the entire social spectrum, usually with success. However, when faced with a new A-level hacker nicknamed "The Laughing Man," the team is thrown into a dangerous cat and mouse game, following the hacker's trail as it leaves its mark on Japan.

I was not expecting this. Being a fan and only owning the series on DVD, I noticed this and decided to upgrade. The presentation of this set is fantastic. The images that Zavvi have up do not do it justice. It is huge! When I first opened the package I couldn't believe it. The box is easily the size of a vinyl record. It comes with a full size making of book that features interviews with the creator, information on all versions of GITS, as well as some beautiful production art. The discs are housed within a large hardback style book. I'm a few episodes in on my re-watch and the quality is great. The thing that really stands out is the DTS HD Master Audio track. It is fantastically clear. Music has a nice punch and the mix is good and weighty, with great separation between the channels. If you are a fan of this show, I cannot recommend it enough.
It took only 12 days to ship from the UK to Shanghai, which is much faster than Amazon. About the item, I can't be happier with the whole set. Everything is amazing. I already own the Japanese BDs but I wanted the artbook so badly that I just went ahead and ordered this release. No regret! The book was much larger than I imagined. But the package was obviously not enough because a corner of the box was crushed a little and it hurt a corner of the book a bit, too.
Amazing quality and clarity it's about time a series like this got it's uk release, art box is fantastic, layout of the innards is great too and the art/behind the scenes book is full of amazing little facts that you'll miss without reading.
Excellent box set of this outstanding show with great sound and picture quality
