The Fighter is an exceptional look at the early years of boxer Micky Ward’s (Mark Wahlberg) life and career as well as his relationship with his older brother Dicky (Christian Bale). The story starts with Micky at the age of 30. Micky is a semi-professional boxer on his way to becoming pro. He is managed by his mother and trained by his older brother and former boxer Dicky. Mickey is frustrated with his boxing career as he is looked on as a ‘Stepping Stone’ to other boxers. Tired of not getting the respect he deserves he takes a shot a HBO televised fight on the undercard of a major fight. When Micky loses he is extremely embarrassed and thinks that’s it’s now time to retire. He is offered one more shot but his loose cannon brother is getting in the way.

Micky and Dicky have always been close and Dicky taught him everything he knows but now it’s time for Micky to take his shot at going pro no promoter wants Dicky around due to his cocaine addiction and his rampant nature. Now Micky must take his best shot alone but will this cause conflict between him and Dicky or will he clean up and get in his corner? -M.F.
