The Godfather
Regarded as one of the best American films ever by the American Film Institute, Francis Ford Coppola's epic masterpiece features Marlon Brando in his Oscar-winning role as the patriarch of the Corleone family.

The Godfather is a violent and chilling portrait of the Sicilian family's struggle to stay in power in a post-war America of corruption, deceit and betrayal. Coppola begins his legendary trilogy, masterfully balancing the story of the Corleone's family life and the ugly crime business in which they are engaged. Based on Mario Puzo's best-selling novel and featuring career-making performances by Al Pacino, James Caan, and Robert Duvall, this searing and brilliant film garnered ten Academy Award nominations and won three including Best Picture of 1972.

The Godfather: Part II
In what is undeniably one of the best sequels ever made, Francis Ford Coppola continues his epic Godfather trilogy with this saga of two generations of power within the Corleone family. Coppola, working once again with author Mario Puzo, crafts two interwoven stories that work as both prequel and sequel to the original. One shows the humble Sicilian beginnings and New York rise of a young Don Vito, now played in an Oscar-winning performance for Best Supporting Actor by Robert De Niro. The other shows the ascent of Michael (Al Pacino) as the new Don. Reassembling many of the cast members who helped make The Godfather, Coppola produced a movie of staggering magnitude and vision. The film received eleven Academy Award nominations, winning six including Best Picture of 1974.

The Godfather: Part III
In the final installment of the epic Corleone trilogy, Al Pacino reprises his role as powerful family leader Michael Corleone. Now in his 60s, Michael is consumed with guilt for his past deeds while he plans his family's re-emergence as a completely legitimate corporation in this exciting, long-awaited film. Masterfully exploring the themes of power, tradition, revenge and love, Francis Ford Coppola directs Pacino, Andy Garcia, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, Eli Wallach, Sofia Coppola, Joe Mantegna and others in this final chapter of the trilogy. Nominated for seven Academy Awards in 1990, including Best Picture.

Excellent Set!

Packaging. The Godfather Collection comes in a nice and thick box, not the cheap ones that you occasionally get. Included are the 4 disc in keep cases, which maybe doesn't look that nice, but at least it's practical. Video-Quality. Outstanding! Especially the first two ones look like you've never seen them before (but the third one is excellent as well). No traces of excessive DNR or any flaws at all. Audio I'm not an expert on that issue, but you can select from a variety of languages and the Original English Audio is of course presented in 5.1 True HD. In my opinion the audio track sounds clean and clear. Extras You get a couple of hours of excellent stuff. There are a lot of brand new extras that are presented in HD as well as the older material from DVD. Bottom-Line A must-buy for any serious lover of Italian-American cinema.

Great quality

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Bought The Godfather on DVD (2001 version) which is widely regarded as being extremely low quality having been transferred from the original heavily damaged film reels. Switching to the restored Blu Ray edition really does make a big difference, everything is nice and crisp with good colour saturation. If you're going to be one of the best film trilogies ever then the restored version is the only way to do it justice!

God the father is good

Opinion seems divided on the merits of this Blu-ray set. The picture isn't reference quality but before viewing, I would suggest looking at the informative featurette entitled 'Emulsional Rescue' on disc four. In it, the team behind the trilogy's restoration tell you exactly why the films now look the way they do. The popularity of the first two movies led to so many prints being struck that the original negatives had deteriorated dramatically. The material was rescuable; nevertheless there were many choices made regarding exposure levels and colour timing. For these, the films' cinematographer, Gordon Willis, was consulted. Therefore any changes that look like errors, such as the near darkness of the opening scene or the over-exposed appearance of the wedding sequence, are entirely deliberate. They reflect the desire to return the films to their makers' original intent.

An offer you can't refuse!

The Coppola Restoration comes in all its glory in this Bluray Collection. I have "upgraded" from the first DVD release and the improvements are quite noticeable, especially in the first two movies. Even the bonus materials benefit from the re-release, so it is highly suggested to consider this collection if you're a fan!

Best trilogy ever

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

When I first watched the godfather trilogy, I was convinced these movies are indeed treasures of American cinema and were all true masterpieces. Seeing these movies once again fully restored and in high definition allowed me to appreciate these movies even more for what they are and even find discover some elements that I had missed when I watched them on VCD.
