Spencer Tracy (State of the Union), Jeffrey Hunter (The Searchers), and Dianne Foster (Drive a Crooked Road) head the all-star cast of The Last Hurrah, a spirited satire of American politics from legendary director John Ford (Gideon’s Day).
Frank Skeffington (Tracy) is a brash, long-serving Irish American mayor gearing up for his final election campaign, which he invites his nephew Adam (Hunter), a reporter, to observe. As the campaign continues, it becomes clear that the writing is on the wall for Skeffington and his brand of hands-on politics.
Based on a novel by Pulitzer Prize-winner Edwin O'Connor (The Edge of Sadness) and adapted by Ford's regular screenwriter Frank S Nugent (The Quiet Man), The Last Hurrah blends comedy with the elegiac tone of the director’s best work.
