Welcome to the future. Biological war has decimated life on Earth. Los Angeles is a windswept ghost town where Robert Neville tools his convertible through sunlit streets foraging for supplies. And makes damn sure he gets undercover before sundown, when other 'inhabitants' emerge.

The Omega Man adapts Richard Matheson's novel I Am Legend into a high-impact high-tension saga of a fate not so far removed from reality. Charlton Heston is Neville, fending off attacks by The Family, sinister neopeople spawned by the plague. He also becomes a man with a mission after meeting Lisa (Rosalind Cash), another uninfected survivor - and guardian of some healthy children representing our species' hope.

For an old film the Omega Man is stunning on Blu-ray. The picture is vibrant and has explosive sound. A true masterpiece. Remakes - eat my shorts.

The Omega Man

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

The Omega Man was released in 1971 and I have to say the transfer onto bluray is fantastic. Crisp clear picture and vibrant colours. I have more recent films on bluray that don't look anywhere near as good as this, the only bad thing I would say is the sound. No effort has been made to enhance the sound quality and remains in mono but for a budget bluray you cant really complain.

The Omega Man is a classic film from the early '70s apocalyptic era that you will only like if you remember watching it as a kid. The transfer on the whole is not bad for such an old film. There is some bad grain in darker scenes, but you wouldn't expect them to spend any money on cleaning up a title such as this.
