The White Queen is a riveting portrayal of one of the most dramatic and turbulent times in English history. A story of love and lust, seduction and deception, betrayal and murder, it is uniquely told through the perspective of three different, yet equally relentless women - Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort and Anne Neville. In their quest for power, they will scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne. The year is 1464 and war has been ravaging throughout England over who is the rightful King. It is a bitter dispute between two sides of the same family, The House of York and The House of Lancaster, and these three, equally relentless women are each desperately vying for the crown.

EASY HISTORY

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

It may not be one hundred percent accurate in terms of history but this series gives you very good feel for the period. The treachery of those closest to the crown and push from those who would be closest to the crown are exposed here in a way that makes history gripping. It is a drama not a history lesson but the flavour of the good and the bad and the risk to life that seem to come with every new twist of fortune are at last understandable. The costumes, settings, colour and pageantry all help to reveal something of the hidden past of the fight for power.

Excellent, Absorbing Drama

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Superb acting, direction and cinematography. Set design and period costumes are splendid (as expected). Absorbing story based on historical accounts. Grabs and maintains your attention. Packaged on Blu-Ray in a no-frills, sensible case. Highly recommended!

The White Queen

3 stars out of a maximum of 5

A well acted drama based around historical figures and events, based around the house of York. This is actually a merging of 3 of Phillipa Gregory's novels. The quality of sound and image are very good and worthy of blu-ray. The only way this could have been better is if the BBC turned it in to a 3 part series as there was a lot of material lost between the three novels this is based on, but what is presented is very good and engaging.
