From director Steven Spielberg comes “War Horse,” an epic adventure for audiences of all ages.

Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, “War Horse” begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows Joey’s the extraordinary journey as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets – British cavalry, German soldiers and a French farmer and his granddaughter – before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.

The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse – an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. “War Horse” is one of the great stories of friendship and war – a best-selling book by author Michael Morpurgo, it was turned into an award-winning stage production and now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history.

TRIBUTE TO WAR HORSES

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

War Horse is a great film which highlights the tragedy of the millions of horses expended during the First World War when road and rail transport was not as good as it is today. There were literally millions of horses purchased, along with donkeys and other beasts of burden. Many millions of these were killed or maimed in action and some even eaten. Spielberg always researches his films well and uses the special effects very well. The story is of a boy and his love of his horse and their experiences throughout the war, their separation and their coming together again. If you have not seen it before, then make sure you have some tissues for the ending. Personally I love any history surrounding the First World War and I love Blu-ray. This is highly recommended.

War Horse is an excellent film. I would recommend it to all. I never thought that I would be so gripped by a film where the leading actor was an animal. I certainly can understand why it won so many awards.

Good one for the kids

Nice one for the family. Not the blockbuster type of film my kids generally sit down to so it does make a nice change to see them engaging with something sentimental. Not just for horse-lovers.

I really enjoyed Warhorse. It was a bit too sentimental and far-fetched in places but not as weepy as you might think.
