This film keeps getting bad or mediocre reviews because it's not what people expected. Come to this movie with no expectations and you may be pleasantly surprised. It's not a straight forward 'alien invasion' film, for a start. If you want Independence Day, watch Independence Day not this. If you want something a little bit different, you may want to give this a try. I don't want to give away the ending but think of this as a prequel to a comic book series and you might get the point. This is one film that really needs a sequel or two (or three?). It could really do with them. Great graphics, great aliens, good sci-fi/horror concept, better than average script. Let's be honest we don't always want something that needs to be watched a dozen times before we get all of the subtle nuances. It's not perfect but it is a good ride.
An average B movie, that is a relatively low budget but ambitious sci-fi drama, featuring alien invasion. I feel this is a like or loathe kind of film, and it has to be said that some of it actually quite good. The effects are mostly very impressive, but the cast and idea sort of limit it, and do not boost the many sky shots and alien/robot CGI. The skyline simply transforms any human onlookers and the alien invasion parts are the best bits. It loses it way at times, amidst sections of quality. Will suffer from comparisons, and people's underwhelming cast reviews.
Fantastic special effects and action sequences, but the storyline was lacking and the film just kind of fizzled out at the end.
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE, MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH IT WAS THE REASON AS TO WHY THE MAIN CHARACTER WAS 'DIFFERENT' (YOU'LL UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN WHEN YOU WATCH IT). HOPE THERE IS A SECOND ONE THAT WILL ANSWER MY CONFUSION :)
If you watched the trailer you'd be forgiven to think that this movies is going to be awesome. Great visual effects, awesome aliens and a lot of explosions. When watching the movie you realise the creators of the trailer have actually managed to put 90% of all the great stuff in the 2 minutes trailer. Besides the visual effects this movie doesn't really have a lot going for it. Not surprising considering the directors have their background in special effects. The story itself is pretty thin and very predictable. The movie only really seems to get going 15 minutes before the end. It's pretty obvious the storyline was split into multiple parts and we have to wait until Skyline 2 for the good bit of the story. Overall the movie could have been condenced to 30 minutes leaving enough time to actually give us the interesting bits which are hopefully going to be Skyline 2. Overall the special effects make the movie watchable but no more than that. If you love Aliens and specials effects it's worthing picking up though.
it was ok
Far from the most illuminating film you'll ever see.
Great film, filled with suspense and excitement all the way through Skyline is another alien invasion movie. Just be warned that the ending isnt the best... but that would be spoiling it!
For a B movie with no big names in this surprised me in its effects quality and the alien bits I loved. interacting with the aliens is excellent and you get that sort of brooding suspense wondering like the actors what's going on. then suddenly realising they want them! however the whole plot surrounding the actors didn't really work. all arguing about to go outside or not was a waste of time and celluloid. in the end you sort of what all the whiners dead so they will shut up. the end like everyone says is almost like a joke. tacked on because no one knew what to do as an ending and to leave it open for some sort of weird sequel. in short for the special effects and the story happening outside is great, its just when it focuses on the actors alone it unravels and you find yourself looking at the forward button!
