Celebrating 35 years since its original broadcast, and available for the first time in series order, this is the comedy series that put organic foods, self-sufficiency and green thinking on the map.
On his 40th birthday, Tom Good (Richard Briers) decides that he's had enough of the rat race, and that he and his wife Barbara (Felicity Kendal) should become self-sufficient. Overnight they begin to convert their suburban garden into a farm, complete with crops, pigs and chickens, homemade beer and more.
But their choice of lifestyle doesn't exactly fit in with the neighbours, in particular Margot Leadbetter (Penelope Keith) and her henpecked husband Jerry (Paul Eddington) who find themselves hindering, but even sometimes helping against their better judgement.
Unique in its vision, consistent in its comedy, this is entertainment at its finest, the kind that only comes with The Good Life.

You could say that The Good Life - Complete Box Set is self-sufficient as it stands up well on its own. Turning their backs on modern life and getting back to nature and self-sufficiency, the Goods' journey will resonate with a modern audience. More enjoyable are the characterisations of differing personalities, friendships without common ground and accepting neighbours as they are. There are terrific one liners, a scene-stealing Penelope Keith, warm cuddles and moments to cry over. Sure the picture quality isn't too great, but then some old 1970 shows weren't meant to be viewed on a HDTV several decades later. An extended episode filmed before the Royal Family is a bonus, otherwise the lack of a commentary track and follow-up interview is a shame. Overall this is a good quality set with episodes allowed to breathe over 8 discs. Timeless!
It arrived in time for christmas and I've already watched the whole of the 30 episodes plus extras!! It is still as funny as I remember. I would use this website again and the free postage was a definite plus point. Thanks again!!:):)
