Nearly five years after being found guilty of murdering three women he met on the internet, Alan Lane (John Lynch) is back in the headlines as the Court of Appeal has dramatically overturned his convictions. The case goes back to the Old Bailey as new evidence comes to light and the stage is set for a fierce battle between Lane’s defence barrister Emma Watts (Julie Walters) and John Mallory (Roger Allam) for the prosecution. In this extremely entertaining series QC Emma Watts, played to perfection by Julie Walters, is defending a man on re-trial for multiple murders of young women. Emma is dogged, witty, and believes deeply in her client's innocence. The courtroom banter between Watts & the witnesses is, in my opinion, the highlight of the series; she certainly knows how to bring them down to size! The series also highlights the flaws in the Jury system, which during the series, is trying to be done away with, being described as too expensive & unreliable. With enough twists & turns to keep you glued to your TV screen, this series is a very worthwhile addition to your collection if you want a good plot, superb acting, and an ending you will never see coming!
