Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is a rebellious man haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father; Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges). In 1989 Kevin mysteriously disappeared and left Sam an orphaned boy. He was known as one of the world's leading video game developers and was CEO of Encom, a leading technology company.

In present day Sam has not given up hope that his father is still alive. When he receives a page from his father's former place of work he goes looking and finds an old computer. He is transported into a computer generated world where his father has been trapped for 20 years. With the help of his confidant, Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son team up to try and get out of the computer world and back to reality. Their journey is not going to be easy though; the universe that Kevin created has become much more advanced with vehicles, weapons and a ruthless villain that will stop at nothing to find Kevin.

New Tron

I have not had a chance to see the origninal Tron so went into this film with open expectations. I would say it might help if you are familiar with the plot of the original film, but this is a great stand alone film with fantastic visual effects. Great to see Jeff Bridges from the original film cast in this one to keep some continuity of plot. In conclusion I would highly recommend this film to both fans of the original and to anyone just looking for a great sci-fi action film.

Tron: Legacy

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

A highly enjoyable, action-packed film. However, the main story doesn't really begin until half-way through. It's great to see Jeff Bridges back in the role of Kevin Flynn, and for anyone that remembers the original Tron film (1982), this simply adds to the nostalgia. The character of Alan Bradley, a trusted friend of Kevin and his son Sam Flynn is played by Bruce Boxleitner (remember Captain Sheridan in Babylon 5) in both films. It's another nice touch of continuity. Watch out for Michael Sheen (the Lycan Lucian in the Underworld Films). He plays a very vivacious, and wonderfully camp, club owner called Castor who lives on The Grid (the computerised world in Tron). Highly recommended, and good family entertainment.

A visually stunning piece of artwork!

Tron: Legacy is by far the most impressive and breath-takingly beautiful film I've seen in a very long time. Its clear the special effects artists took their time to create an impressive world in which dramatic and exciting battles take place to an exquisitely crafted soundtrack (provided by the incredible Daft Punk, who also make a cameo). One of the major criticisms of the film has been its storyline, but the film will definitely leave you impressed, provided you aren't expecting Citizen Kane!
