1 million tons of steel. 100,000 lives at stake. 100 minutes to impact.

Frank (Denzel Washington) works as a train engineer and has done so for a while, he’s an average guy just trying to put food on the table for his family. Will (Chris Pine) is fresh out of training and joins Frank on his day. They’re not the best of friends and aren’t particularly suited to each other.

The pair are about to be united on a mission, a deadly mission. An unmanned train is hurtling down the tracks toward a populated town, and the train has no brakes. To make the matters worse, the train is filled with toxic chemicals. Everyone is at a loss what to do, until Frank decides it’s his duty to stop the train. Will unwillingly joins him and together they formulate a plan to stop the train before it decimates the nearby town.

Another great Denzel Washington film, packed with tension and action but with a predictable ending.

Unstoppable

It makes a change for there to be a film about a railway, instead of someone just using it for travel. I was sceptical at first, thinking that it'd be a far-fetched and totally fancyful farce with nothing relating to the truth. Having watched it though, and I'm told its based on a true story, I have to say it was enjoyable. I think it shows up very well the relationship between old experienced hands and the know-it-all kids that come along to replace them, and the rapport between our two main characters is very true to life. If you've any interest in american railways, it'd make an enjoyable film to watch. If you like action-packed cliff-hangers, you'd probably enjoy it too.

Unstoppable is adrenaline-driven escapism at its best. Clichés? Yes, but in an expected way. We watch this movie to see the train run away. The sub-plots are the necessary "evil", but Denzel Washington and Chris Pine are appropriately likeable so we care about their personal crises/clichés. Director Tony Scott keeps the action moving and the camera/stunt crew are professional. It's entertaining and worth a look!

I went to watch unstoppable not really expecting much , what can be so exciting about a train :( but I was actually gripped to my seat, it was a really good film, the story was even better as I heard it is based on a real event so I was really pleased I did decide to go and see it and I thoroughly enjoyed it :)

Big dumb (but great) action film

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

I'm not usually fussed about big dumb action movies I thought this one would pass me by, but I'm really pleased I went to see it. It was big, and it was pretty dumb, but ooh yes there was lots of action and I got caught up in it so the time flew by. I didn't understand a lot of the train talk, but it added authenticity. There were enough near misses to keep me on the edge of my seat. I thought Denzel Washington was excellent, and Chris Pine made a good, moody, handsome action-man. The relationship between the two of them was an interesting dimension. I liked reading in the closing credits what happened to the real life characters, and I thought they all got appropriately treated (I laughed at the outcome for the slacker who caused the whole thing to happen)
