Victor Maynard is a middle-aged, solitary assassin, who lives to please his formidable mother, despite his own peerless reputation for lethal efficiency. His professional routine is interrupted when he finds himself drawn to one of his intended victims, Rose. He spares her life, unexpectedly acquiring in the process a young apprentice, Tony. Believing Victor to be a private detective, his two new companions tag along, while he attempts to thwart the murderous attentions of his unhappy client.

Brilliant Cast for this black comedy. Easy to follow plot makes this an ideal family film. Loved the soundtrack which creates a great atmosphere. Would make a great present for any time of the year.

Personally I don't think you can get better than a well produced British comedy and who better to do it than Jonathan Lynn, the man behind Yes Prime Minister. Bill Nighy is brilliantly casted as the old timer hit-man Victor Maynard and as always performs brilliantly. Don't expect the obvious comical gags that could be made in a more commercial interpretation of a solitary assassin situation comedy, the wit is clever and keeps you chuckling throughout the film. This film reminds British comedy's of the old, we need more!
