I watched the Day The Earth Stood Still before watching the original so I am probably biased in that view. However I believe it is a huge improvement in so many ways. Visually it goes without saying but the acting is more convincing, even from Mr Reeves, who isn't my favourite actor in general but in this he is perfectly suited. There are a few references to the original film just to keep it alive to fans of the original. The story of this film, although based on the original, is a vast improvement. Much more complete, understandable and believable. I was originally unsure of this film but I am extremely happy I watched it now and felt the need to buy it.
