I have it on good authority that this film could almost mirror what goes on behind the closed doors of our civil service within central goverment. Well may be not as much bad language but still remarkably close. I didnt watch the TV show and that didnt spoil the film for me one jot, I laughed out loud at it all the way through. The story is clever and well written and based around the central character of Simon Foster who is bullied and abused at every available oppertunity. The language is strong to say the least but doesnt over shaddow the movie. All in all, its well written, well acted, well delivered and very funny. This is definately one to watch.
Following on from the excellent In the thick of it TV series this is a film for those who appreciate witty, biting and downright funny satire. You dont need to have seen the show to watch the film and in some ways it may help as it'll be more of a surprise to see Jamie and Tucker burst in to action as some of the most threatening, bullying and downright obnoxious characters ever seen on the big screen. The story has peaks and troughs with the highs being incredibly funny. The triumphs are James Galdolfinis pacifist American General - playing against type and Peter Capaldis machiavellian Malcolm Tucker. The real success is the last chapter where the film exposes how the folly of going to a war created for political gain is exposed - and pops the comedy bubble leaving you reflective and downbeat - exactly as it means to do,
